Critters & Pet Sitters

One of our recent Graduate success stories is Ellie Hennessy who graduated with BSc in Animal Health & Welfare from Coleg Gwent, Usk in June 2022. Based in Newport, Ellie launched her dog walking and pet-sitting service in October 2022.

She applied to BID for funding to enable her to expand her business and offer a unique service – home boarding exotic pets.

Following a successful pitch, Ellie was awarded funding to purchase a vivarium, bird cage and small mammal cage and to have a DBS check, cat and dog first aid training and home boarding license.

Ellie told us “I would like to say thank you very much to everyone at USW Enterprise because without you I wouldn’t be able to offer my new service. I was extremely nervous to pitch, however, the judges made me feel at ease. Not only has the funding been extremely helpful but the guidance and support from the staff at USW Enterprise has helped my small business thrive”.
She offered this advice “If you are a graduate or student considering starting your own business, go for it! There is so much support out there so please don’t ever feel alone. It may feel daunting but nothing good comes easily. As long as you are passionate and dedicated to your business idea you will go far!
She added “I cannot thank the Enterprise team enough for the support and encouragement they have given, not only can you possibly get funding but also the benefit of the free advice from professionals so no matter what your outcome, it’s a win-win”.
