THE WESTFIELD HEALTH BRITISH TRANSPLANT GAMES – SOCIAL MEDIA TEAM

The 2019 Westfield Health British Transplant Games descends on Newport from 25-28 July. It will see teams from hospitals across the UK come together in a four-day festival of sport and life.

Around 2500 transplant recipients, live donors, donor families and supporters are expected at venues including the Newport International Sports Village - home to the Geraint Thomas National Velodrome of Wales – as well as The Celtic Manor Resort and Rodney Parade. It is the flagship event of the charity, Transplant Sport.

Track and field, swimming, cycling, darts, walking and snooker are just some of the 25 sports and events on offer in the jam-packed schedule.

The British Transplant Games PR & Media team has several volunteer opportunities available for students wishing to gain experience in the areas of social media and content creation. Outgoing personalities and excellent communication skills are a benefit as you will be required to approach participants and supporters.

The social media team will be required to gather compelling content (emotive and uplifting images and film content) that addresses the event’s key messages on a smartphone to be submitted to the PR & Media team so that it can raise awareness of the event and its key objectives. The primary objective is to raise awareness of the importance of organ donation and to encourage more families to have a donation conversation.

The British Transplant Games is an event that attracts national media coverage and a high social engagement rate.

  • Equipment: This is a charitable event which means volunteers will be required to bring their own smartphone.
  • Meals and Travel: Volunteers are provided with lunch each day for the duration of the British Transplant Games.  Travel to different venues will be provided.
  • Hours: Ideally, we are looking for students who can attend the full four days but will consider all applications. You can expect to serve around 8 hours a day but again are flexible!
  • Insurance:  The British Transplant Games holds all relevant insurance policies for operating an event of this scale.
