Our graduate entrepreneur for our April Great Graduate Giveaway (#USWGradGiveaway) is Katherine Everett, the founder of The Naked Wick!
Graduating from the University of South Wales in 2018 with a degree in Photography, Kat has always been creative and during lockdown she decided to start her own small business.
"Creating a brand from scratch was exciting and I have always loved scented candles. That was the beginning of The Naked Wick!"
The Naked Wick is Kat's handmade soy candle business. Her products include candles, wax melts and gift boxes with a minimalist and natural style which is inclusive of everyone.
Sustainability is incredibly important to Kat, which is apparent in her branding. "All of our products and packaging are reusable, recyclable or biodegradable. With our ‘refill’ rewards scheme, customers can return 5 empty candle tins, for money off of their next purchase."
Now, Kat showcases her small business on the Wales Student Market, and she credits it to USW for introducing her to the platform.
"USW taught me the creative skills and knowledge I needed to start a business, which enabled me to design a brand and run every aspect of this, from graphic design, photography, marketing, web design, buying, merchandising, fulfilling orders and customer service."
