Virtual Experience Works Week 19 – 23 October 2020

Normally in October USW Careers holds our flagship volunteering fair, Experience Works, where you get to meet loads of organisations with fantastic opportunities for you to fill that work experience shaped gap on your CV.

This year, we are going virtual!
We are packing a full week with all things volunteering where you can bag yourself the work experience you need for your placement module or to get your career plans on track, all from the comfort of your laptop!

What’s happening during Experience Works Week?
We’ve been busy working with volunteering organisations to put together an engaging week with a mix of live webinars, giving you the chance to connect with those organisations, USW Placement Partners and GO Wales Advisers, and content and opportunities that you can access at any time.  Full details of what’s happening during the week will be published on the dedicated website.

Volunteering, what’s in it for me?
As well as that warm sense of satisfaction in doing something good, volunteering is a great way to get the quality work experience you need to impress future employers.  You’ll get to try out and develop your skills, and volunteering is usually quite flexible so it can work around your timetable, part-time job and other personal commitments.

Volunteering also gives you the opportunity to test drive a career path you have in mind and build your professional contacts at the same time.

Here’s a sneaky peak at some of the highlights of the week:

  • Live webinars from Skills Volunteering Cymru SVC, Valleys Steps, Citizens Advice Witness Service, Victim Support Hate Crime Team, Prison Advice and Care Trust PACT, Wales Probation Services, Newlink Wales, Neath Port Talbot Council for Voluntary Service NPTCVS & Fareshare Cymru.
  • Useful videos and news content from organisations including Victim Support, PACT, Valleys Steps, Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations GAVO, NPTCVS, Wales Probation Services & Hijinx.
  • Links to voluntary opportunities and other USW Careers Services.
  • Student blogs showcasing their volunteering experiences.
  • Coffee and Chat sessions with USW Placements and GO Wales.
