Careers in Statistics
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) is the UK’s largest independent producer of official statistics and its recognised national statistical institute. We are responsible for collecting and publishing statistics related to the economy, population and society at national, regional and local levels.
Key services include measuring changes in the value of the UK economy (GDP), estimating the size, geographic distribution and characteristics of the population (including statistics from the Census), and providing indicators of price inflation (CPI), employment, earnings, crime and migration.

Recruitment entry criteria for analyst at Office for National Statistics:
For a Statistical Officer the degree (2:1 or above) must contain at least 25% taught statistical content (undergraduate). 25% taught statistical content e.g. Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Sciences, Business Studies, Psychology, Geography or similar. For a Research officer the degree (2:1 or above) must include social research modules that comprise at least 30% of the qualification, and this can be any social science related subject. Within this 30%, the applicant will be expected to evidence modules that show at least 3 out of the 5 listed skills: qualitative methods, study design, systematic/literature reviews, data interpretation and application of ethics to research).
