If you have a business idea but don't know how to develop it or need support with your existing business/freelance venture, we are here to help! From 1-to-1 sessions to bootcamps, networking events and more, we are a dedicated team under USW Careers ready to help you on your start-up journey.

What we do:

1-TO-1 SUPPORT

Wherever you are at with your business or freelance idea, we are happy to meet you on a 1-to-1 basis and offer guidance. You can meet us in-person at any USW campus or virtually by telephone or video call.

EVENTS

We organise activities all year long! From the Summer Start-up Week to the Global Entrepreneurship Week, to startup visa sessions and free marketing masterclasses - there's something for everyone.

GRADUATE ROUTE VISA

The new Graduate Route Visa enables graduates to undertake employed or self-employed work at any level. For government information see https://www.gov.uk/graduate-visa

ONLINE RESOURCES

MyCareer is a dedicated free resource that offers articles, advice and tools such as:

  • A beginner's guide to freelancing

STARTUP STIWDIO

Startup Stiwdio is USW's dedicated co-working and incubation space designed to help develop and grow new business ideas. Students and graduates can benefit from dedicated business support programmes, 6-months free booking and accountancy services, 1-year free legal support, and help with patent and trademark registration.

EXTERNAL & PARTNER SUPPORT

Big Ideas Wales - Entrepreneurship support from under 25's.

Business Wales - Offering support to all new and existing businesses which includes the business sector fact sheets, free online BOSS workshops and business planning information to help you build your knowledge and your business.

Prince's Trust - Offers start-up support for 18-30 year olds.

HM Revenue & Customs - Once you've set up your business, you must register as self-employed with HMRC. HMRC has a lot of useful information on setting up a business.
