Events & Activities

We organise activities all year long! From the Summer Start-up Week to the Global Entrepreneurship Week, to startup visa sessions and free marketing masterclasses – there’s something for everyone.

Key Events:

BID (Bright Ideas Den) is your chance to pitch for up to £1,000 to kick-start your bright idea. If you have an early-stage business or freelance idea you would like to try out whilst you study or have decided to set up a business or go freelance after graduating, BID funding and the friendly expert panel feedback could be just what you need. BID runs once per term and it’s your chance to introduce yourself, your idea and what you need to get going, whether that is training, equipment, materials or buying in skills. The funding is available to current University of South Wales students and graduates.

If you have an idea and are ready to take it forward, the Freelance & Founder Academy focuses on giving you the skills, knowledge and network to make your idea happen. During the intensive 5 days you will learn the practical aspects of starting a business (including marketing and finance) as well as developing skills such as pitching and networking.

The workshops will be led by business experts and supported by guest entrepreneurs sharing their stories and tips for success throughout the week. The week will cover all the basics of business plans, marketing, networking and getting yourself out there, the week is designed to help entrepreneurial students and graduates move into the world of self-employment.

Mentoring will be available to all participants and the week will culminate in the chance to pitch for a share of £3,000 cash.

Create & Collaborate is a Networking event that brings together students & graduates from a range of courses within the creative industries, and creative working professionals. Each event brings together a network of creatives and gives them the opportunity to work collaboratively across the disciplines. By extending this network, students and graduates are able to develop creative working relationships with like-minded individuals and use these connections to make links with future projects and enterprise opportunities.

Previous guests have included representatives from: Orchard Media, Creative Skills, Ffilm Cymru, National Theatre Wales, Cardiff TV, Hay Festival.

If you want to improve your networking skills, don’t miss out on these opportunities to Mix Up & Pitch with local businesses, business advisors and other student and graduate entrepreneurs. This event is open to students and graduates from all Welsh universities.
