Rhondda Tunnel Society

"During my internship I had the opportunities to meet different people create connections and gain skills which I consider important for my future employment status.

Before I started my internship, I struggled to make my mind regarding the options I had to decide on. But to be honest one of the options was catching my eyes and this 10-week internship opportunity was for Rhondda Tunnel Society, under the description of a charity which is in search of a student with which they were hoping to collaborate in making marketing research, the aim been to research what visitors would like to see inside the longest cycling and walking tunnel in Europe and second on the globe.

I was impressed with the description which they had, therefore I asked my advisor Julie Gould in our video meeting, to talk about want should I choose for my internship. I was surprized to see how devoted I was to make a good impression if I would have the chance to have an interview with Rhondda Tunnel Society. So, I decided to apply for all the opportunities but focus more on obtaining a secure place with Rhondda Tunnel Society. The process was smooth, and I done my best to be accepted for the position Marketing Research Officer, therefore I was extremely happy to know that for the next 10 weeks I will be part of Rhondda Tunnel Society team.

My role as a Marketing Research Officer is to collect during my research, information regarding what would people like to see in the Rhondda Tunnel during their visit as in the future when the tunnel will be reopened. My research must include all demographic areas, therefore I collected data from the meetings in which I participated with different individuals which have been supportive regarding the project, and I also conducted research in the area of Rhondda, schools and in other places of interest. I have been given help during my internship if I needed by the university and also by representants from my placement, which made me feel very supported and encouraged to succeed in achieving my goals.

During my internship I had the opportunities to meet different people create connections and gain skills which I consider important for my future employment status. Rhondda Tunnel Society has helped me put my skills and knowledge in practice during these 10 weeks and I consider myself lucky for having this amazing experience and if in the future I would have the opportunity to continue my work within this project or even in other projects, I would.
