Airbus have loads of graduate and year out placement vacancies, including a number at their site at Celtic Springs between Newport and Cardiff – and the closing date is 4 November.
Since joining Airbus I have been well looked after, although engineers I am working with have far superior knowledge to me, any inputs I make are valued by the team and not just ignored. The scheme itself has allowed me to meet and network with other graduates around the county. The first week was an induction into the company which provided details of Airbus as a global company and Airbus Defence and Space. During this week the graduates are encouraged to network with each other and events are set up to help promote this. To give an example of this, on the 1st day of the induction an evening was set up and paid for by Airbus where the 1st years graduates are invited for some food and here comes the best part, welcome drink and drinks vouchers! After an hour or so the second year graduates join and provide invaluable information about their experiences with the 1st year of the programme. This is just one example but many presentations are given throughout the week which demonstrates what you as a graduate can get out of the programme.
In addition to all the nice stuff Airbus offers they also provide a structured training plan to help develop you into a leader. Within the 1st week of induction an external training company completed the 1st of 3 modules of our graduate development plan which is designed to teach us engineers the softer skills required to make us a good well rounded future leader. This is a course where you will get out as much effort as you put in, the course assists you in your development and from what I have seen will definitely make a difference to my career.
A lot has happened within my first month at Airbus and this is really just a snippet of what could be in it for you! I would encourage you to look at the various roles that Airbus offer, not just at a local level at Newport but around the country. There are many graduate roles to suit most engineering disciplines and I would encourage you all to apply, I appreciate the closing date is the 4th November 2018 but a career with Airbus is definitely worth the pain of taking a few hours out of your evening for your application. A friendly bit of advice is to really research Airbus as a company and the job that you are applying for, it is important in your CV cover letter to really sell yourself and grab the attention of the hiring manager. Show how your values match Airbus’ values and how the technical skills and your personal skills can match the role your applying for!
Good luck with your application and I hope to see some of you in next year’s graduate programme!
