What does your LinkedIn photo say about you?
LinkedIn profiles with professional photos get 14 x more views and 40% more InMail responses than profiles without a photo. A poor LinkedIn profile photo or no photo at all could mean that you are missing out on opportunities.

The Opportunities Fair is only a few days away and whether you are looking for a fantastic graduate job, year out placement, summer placement, or something different and exciting to add to your CV then there is something on offer for everyone. Particularly when you bear in mind that most of the employers are recruiting students from any subject area.

The full programme is now available to download on the event website so students can check in advance who they should talk to at the fair this Thursday (9th November).

USW Careers have been talking to the employers about their recruitment plans and around half of them have been able to confirm the numbers they plan to recruit this year.

Camp Counselors USA (CCUSA) coming to USW with American summer opportunities

We are Camp Counselors USA (CCUSA), a company offers the chance for university students to spend a summer in America or Canada working at a summer camp.

Each year we send thousands of students to the USA & Canada each summer to have an incredible time and earn money whilst doing it. In our programme, we offer a 9 week placement to work with children aged 6-16 years old in a variety of roles ranging from sport to arts and everything in between. After which they get 30 days after their contract ends to travel all over America or Canada.

This whole experience majorly boosts their C.V, employability and is a fantastic life experience that will only benefit them throughout their time at university and afterwards.

The winner of the £50 Voucher for MyFuture

Congratulations to Lucia Borovska, a Final Year Performing Arts Student, for winning the £50 Amazon Voucher for the MyFuture questionnaire

Her name was randomly picked from 636 students who filled out the form.

Lucia said: “The survey was really easy to complete and it helped me to realise that I was already doing lots to develop my employability. There were a few areas that I need to work on and I am going to try and gain more work experience and engage in employer events.”

GO Wales students participate in Games Jam at Candlhat Studios

This term students from FCI and FCES took part in the popular Games Jam

Games Jam is a weekend long opportunity hosted at Candlhat Studios in Llantrisant. The event is taking place as part of Appening Rhondda, a collaborative approach between schools, charities and private businesses including Candlhat Studios, artsfactory, The Moondance Foundation, and People & Work to foster IT development in Rhondda young people.

Participants are given the opportunity to participate in the production of mobile games working alongside industry professionals and experiencing the full game development cycle in an intense, but extremely enjoyable event.

We work with all kinds of employers in Wales to create tailored, flexible work experience opportunities designed to fit around students’ other commitments.

We source:

  • Work shadowing – up to three days of unpaid work experience observing someone in their role to understand how they do their job.
  • Work tasters – up to four weeks of unpaid work experience with the opportunity to learn about work and the working environment by observing and undertaking some tasks.
  • Work placements – four to six weeks of paid work experience getting hands-on experience or working on a project.
