Grads In Games – Helping Students Break Into the Games Industry

Want to work in the exciting and rapidly growing games industry?

Grads in Games run two exciting competitions for undergraduates aspiring to enter the gaming industry. Entrants pick their speciality from code, character art, environmental art, animation and VFX and go through a three-stage process designed by professionals to mimic a standard recruitment process in industry.

What’s up for grabs?

  • A chance to win a job or internship opportunity with leading UK studios.
  • Many entrants use the skills and portfolios they developed through the competition to secure a job in the games industry upon graduation.
  • Receive personal feedback on your work and advice from professional industry programmers, artists and animators.
  • Experience an interview panel with judges from the games industry, and receive tailored feedback to improve your employability.

Find out about working in a Summer Camp in America : USA Summercamp come to USW

USA Summercamp are coming to USW with a number of presentations and drop in events.

What is Summer Camp?
Summer Camps in America are places for children and sometimes adults to enjoy a summer in the outdoors acquiring new skills, games and experiences. Camps like to employ international staff to help run the camp – these are the camp leaders. Each year we send over 1,100 young people aged 18+ to work in summer camps around the USA.

Every year we ask all those who have recently completed a course to take part in a survey called Destination of Leavers from Higher Education (DLHE) to find out what happens to them after graduating from their course.

Two month Internship Opportunities in China

CRCC-ASIA logo The British Council is offering up to 6 places exclusively for students (penultimate year) and graduates at a Welsh university, to do a two month CRCC Asia internship programme in China.

Candidates must be in receipt of a Maintenance Grant.

The internship programs in Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen are delivered by CRCC Asia and are part of the prestigious Generation UK-China initiative.

GO Wales Placing Students into Work Experience

GO Wales Project places its first students into career focused work experience placements with local employers!

The European Social Fund (ESF) funded GO Wales Achieve through Work Experience Programme is for young students on higher education courses in Wales who are facing barriers in securing work experience.

The GO Wales Team at USW have been very busy during the Autumn Term meeting lots of students and helping them to put their career plans into action through exploring potential work experience opportunities. GO Wales work with all kinds of employers in Wales to create tailored, flexible work experience designed to fit around students’ other commitments.

Media opportunities for UEFA Final in Cardiff

The Football Association of Wales (FAW) will be giving a short presentation on the different volunteering roles that will be available at the UEFA Champions League Final Cardiff 2017, what the volunteers can expect and what the application process will be.

They are recruiting over 1000 volunteers to assist at the 2017 UEFA Champions League Final in Cardiff in June.

Finance Futures Keynote Speaker announced! – ‘Where Finance has taken me’ Brian Pickett

Brian Pickett We are delighted to welcome Brian Pickett Director of Finance at Rhondda Housing Association to USW to deliver a keynote speech at our Finance Futures event next Monday.

Brian is a Fellow of the Chartered Association of Certified Accountants, having qualified in 1994 and more recently obtained an executive MBA from Warwick Business School. He has worked across the public and private sectors, including PricewaterhouseCoopers, Standard Chartered Bank, the Audit Commission and National Audit Office. He joined Rhondda Housing Association as its Finance Director in January 2015, following a period with Welsh Government. At Welsh Government he was the Head of Innovative Funding for Housing and Regeneration and oversaw the implementation of the Welsh Housing Bond with M&G Investments and a new revenue funding stream to deliver 1,000 new affordable homes across Wales.

Now is the time to do you research, prepare yourself to answer competency style questions and ensure you can answer anything they throw at you such as what you think caused the financial crisis (asked previously by RBS) or how you’ve dealt with challenging situations (HSBC).
